AWS Azure Synapse Analytics Guide

Satori streamlines and simplifies the process of controlling access to data in Azure Synapse Analytics. Azure Synapse Analytics is an enterprise analytics service that accelerates time to insight across data warehouses and big data systems.

It only takes a few minutes to get started with Satori. Ensure that you have the following prepared in advance:

  • Access to the Satori Management Console.
  • The hostname of your Azure Synapse Analytics workspace SQL endpoint.

Note: Satori supports both serverless and dedicated SQL endpoints with the proxy-based integration.

Adding an Azure Synapse Analytics Data Store to Satori

Perform the following steps to add an Synapse Analytics data store to your Satori account:

  1. Login to the Satori Management Console.
  2. In the Data Stores view, click the plus button to add a new data store.
  3. Select the Azure Synapse Analytics option.
  4. Enter an informative name for the data store, for example: Sales Data Warehouse.
  5. Enter the hostname of your SQL database, for example: abc123-ondemand.sql.azuresynapse.net or abc123.sql.azuresynapse.net.
  6. Choose the ublic cloud provider and region for the Satori Data Access Controller.
  7. Click Create.
  8. Finally, you will be redirected to the Data Stores list view.

Connect to an Azure Synapse Analytics SQL Endpoint via Satori

To connect to an Azure Synapse Analytics SQL enspoint using Satori use the Satori hostname that was generated by the management console which can be found under Satori Hostname in the data store settings view, for example: abc123.us-east-1.a.s0.satoricyber.net.

Connecting with PowerBI Desktop

To connect with PowerBI Desktop use the Satori-generated hostname for your Azure Synapse Analytics data store in the Server input field, e.g. abc123.us-east-1.a.s0.satoricyber.net.

Connecting with Azure Data Studio

To connect with Azure Data Studio follow these steps:

  1. Select New and then New connection.
  2. Select Microsoft SQL Server in the Connection type field
  3. In the Server field enter the Satori-generated hostname for your Azure Synapse Analytics data store, for example: abc123.us-east-1.a.s0.satoricyber.net
  4. In the Encrypt field choose Mandatory (True).
  5. In the Trust server certificate field elect False.

Known Limitations

The Azure Synapse Analytics web interface is not supported.
